Winter at Skriðuklaustur

des2013The New Year brings us more winter here in Fljótsdalur valley and the opening hours at Skriðuklaustur will not be regular for the next months. Groups can always contact us and we will do our best to arrange things from them. Individuals can also contact us via email or phone and we will see if someone is arround. But we wish you all a happy new year and look forward to host you in the rising sun of spring.

The Good Shepherd - reading

Svanhildur Óskarsdóttir við lestur Aðventu 2013THIS READING HAS BEEN CANCELLED, DUE TO WEATHER FORECAST. IN REYKJAVIK THERE WILL STILL BE A READING AT DYNGJUVEGUR 8, STARTING AT 13.30.

The last event this year is ahead on Sunday 14th December, and as usual it is the reading of The Good Shepherd at Skriðuklaustur. This time it will be Vésteinn Ólason professor emeritus who will take us to the highlands along with Benedikt and his companions. The reading starts at 14.00 and will be in Icelandic. Coffee and cakes and peaceful moment in the preparation for Christmas. The forecast is not too good for Sunday but we hope it will be alright.

Writers and Gryla Festival

hofundar14Our annual events the month before Christmas are coming up. In a week the Christmas buffets will start at Klausturkaffi on Friday and Saturday night. Annual reading with writers is on Saturday 29th November where we will welcome  Gyrðir Elíason, Þórarinn Eldjárn, Soffía Bjarnadóttir, Kristín Eiríksdóttir and Gísli Pálsson along with some writers and translators from our region. The reading starts at 14.00 and admission is 1000 kr., 500 kr. for children and seniors. Coffee and cakes included. On Sunday 30th November the annual Gryla Festival will be at 14.00, free admission. Klausturkaffi will offer a special family christmas buffet from 12.00-14.00 and after the festival of course there will be a cake buffet.  Sunnudaginn 30. nóv. er síðan komið að árvissri Grýlugleði.
