Easter exhibitions extended

paskasyning1We extend the two Easter exhibitions and they will be open next weekend, Saturday and Sunday from 14:00-17:00. Of course the Klausturkaffi restaurant is open at the same time offering cake buffet.

The Last Supper is a ceramic exhibition. Eight women artists show their works especially made for this exhibition which is put together by Design and Handcraft.  The curator is Sunneva Hafsteinsdóttir but the artists are: Elín Haraldsdóttir, Embla Sigurgeirsdóttir, Guðný Hafsteinsdóttir, Kristbjörg Guðmundsdóttir, Kristín Sigfríður Garðarsdóttir, Ólöf Erla Bjarnadóttir, Sigrún Jóna Norðdahl and Þuríður Ósk Smáradóttir. In gallery Klaustur the designer Elísabet Karlsdóttir exhibits her project STAND UP/ STAND OUT. It was sponsored by Eggert feldskeri and chosen to participate in REMIX 2015, an international fashion and fur competition in Milan combined to Vogue Talents. The main materials are: Icelandic sealskin, wool, silk, reindeer leather, red fox and bisam.

Gunnar and Norway - new book

Gunnar Gunnarsson og Noregur cover

The Gunnar Gunnarsson Institute has published a new book by the Norwegian scholar and translator Oskar Vistdal who has for many years researched Gunnarsson's connection with Norway. The book is written in Norwegian and is nr. 2 in the institute's serie of treatise. It reveals Gunnarsson relation with Norwegian writers and publishers and the publication of his works in Norway. The book is only published in electronical form and can be bought on Kindle format at  Amazon. Extra material can be downloaded from this website [here].

Friday hike and opening hours in april

skriduklaustur reindeerOn Good Friday the 3rd April there will be a hike from Valþjófsstaður Church to Skriðuklaustur, starting at 11:00. Easter opening hours are: Thursday 2nd April, 2 pm - 5 pm, Friday 3rd April 12 am - 5 pm, Saturday 4th April 2 pm - 5 pm. Closed on Easter day 5th April but open on Monday 6th April 2 pm - 5 pm

The rest of April we are open Saturday & Sundays 2 pm – 5 pm and
Tuesdays and Wednesdays 11 am - 3 pm.

All are welcome to the openings. But the exhibitions will stand until 12th April at Skriðuklaustur. Opening hours over Easter are: The weekend 28th-29th March it is open  14:00-17:00 and also on Thursday 2nd April, Saturday 4th April and Monday 6th April. On Friday 3rd April it is open from 12:00 to 17:00 and lunch buffet at Klausturkaffi. The other day there is cake buffet at Klausturkaffi. On Friday 3rd April there is also a walk of passion from Valþjófsstaður church to Skriðuklaustur which starts at 11:00. We are CLOSED on Easter day, Sunday 5th April.
