Ormsteiti Festival Day

fljotsdalsdagur2017The annual Ormsteiti Festival Day in the Fljotsdalur Valley area is next Sunday, 13th August. Then visitors are welcome to join hiking tours in the morning to Hengifoss or in Laugarfell. The powerstation Fljótsdalsstöð will also have organized tours between 10.00-12.00. And the Wilderness center has special offer on exhibition and soup between 11.00 and 14.00. Program with concert (Kólga) and unusual sport competition will start at 13.30 at Skriduklaustur and in the Vatnajökull visitor center the kids can enjoy Sudoku and nature lesson. The program at Skriduklaustur ends with a service by the medieval monastic ruins at 16.30. Klausturkaffi has lunch and cake bufffet and Fljotsdalsgrund has a special offer on camping the whole weekend.

New exhibition in gallery Klaustur

snaelda webGuðný Rós Þórhallsdóttir who has been studying film art will open an exhibition in gallery Klaustur Saturday 29th July at 14:00. There she will exhibit videoart but she was awarded for a short film at Stockfish film festival last spring. The exhibition will stay open in August.

Art in Nature in the gallery

karlchilcottSaturday 8th July at 2 pm a new exhibition will be opened in gallery Klaustur. It is the Swedish sculptor Karl Chilcott who will show a collection of pictures taken by his daughter Christine Chilcott of Art in Nature project that he worked on three years ago in the surroundings of the Icelandic village Skagaströnd. Karl and Christine Chilcott are now artists in residency at Skriðuklaustur, working on their project Lava Poetry, experiencing and working with the landscape around Vatnajökull glacier.

The exhibition is open every day from 10 am to 6 pm until 26th July.um

Black & white pictures in gallery

Photo by Stuart RicharsonA new exhibition will be opened in gallery Klaustur Saturday 10th June. The photographer Stuart Richardson exhibits his series of black & white pictures taken in Fljotsdalur valley and Hallormsstaður forest. The title of the exhibition is The Quiet.

The exhibition is open every day 10:00 - 18:00 and will stand until 5th July.
