Upcoming events

klausturrodiThere are annual events upcoming at the cultural centre. Saturday 28th November writers will visit us and read from their books at 14.00. The day after, Sunday 29th November, is the Gryla festival when we sing and tell stories about the trolllady Gryla and her husband and children. The fest starts at 14.00. And the last event this year will as usually be reading of the classic novella by Gunnar Gunnarsson, Advent or The Good Shepherd on 13th December. This year it is Vesteinn Olason professor emeritus who will read the story for audience, starting at 14.00.  There are few christmas buffets by Klauturkaffi this year but when this is written there are still tables available 28th November and 11th December.

klausturhaust2012The summer has ended and we are not open everyday anymore. In October the cultural centre and the restaurant will be open on Tuesdays and Wednesday from 10:00 till 15:00. That is in connection with the Smyrilline ferry Norröna that sails between Europe and Seydisfjordur. There will be some events in the winter that we will announce later. And of course if groups are interested in visiting us and enjoy culture and food, we are always ready, just send us an email.

Concert honoring Charles Ross

E-mail Print PDF

charlesrossminiSaturday 19th September we will honor the music teacher, musician and composer Charles Ross who has inspired young musicians in East Iceland for almost 30 years. He celebrated his 50 years anniversary earlier this year and Gunnar Gunnarsson Institute and the Music Center of East Iceland along with other good "friends" have managed events concerning that. The concert at Skriðuklaustur is a part of that program which will end in Eskifjörður by another concert on 13th October. The program is sponsored by the East Iceland developement fund.

On Saturday at 16:00 the Kammer-group Stelkur will play selected works by Charles Ross. Free admission and all are welcome to listen and can also look at Charles's installation, "dogger", in gallery Klaustur.

The sheep gathering of Melarétt has been postponed to Sunday 20th September and will start by noon. Due to that opening hours at Skriðuklaustur on Sunday will be short, from 15:00 till 17:00. But other days we are open 12:00 - 17:00.
